Pennsylvania Wine History
Our wine history began in the 1600s when William Penn returned from Europe with vines from Bordeaux and planted them in the fertile grounds of Pennsylvania in what is now known as Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Sadly, over time they failed to thrive with a new host of bugs and unfamiliar diseases. However, a pollination of American hybrids nicknamed "wildlings" resulted and took root.
