Barrel aromas dominate initially, with notes of dark roasted coffee bean, spice and chocolate. The palate brings creaminess, richness and polish, with a warm finish capping it off. It's some high pedigree, well-cared- for fruit to find at this price.

Blended with 5% Syrah, the 2016 Merlot Columbia Valley opens with a delightful nose of roasted espresso bean, dusty plum, blackberry and cassis with baking spice tones, vanilla and cinnamon. Medium to full- bodied, the wine is balanced, with a structured frame and lifting tannins, ending with bitter dark chocolate, dusty plum and vanilla bean on the lingering finish. Nicely done.
