Expert Reviews
This red is showing a tar note at this stage, covering the black cherry, plum, wild rosemary and thyme flavors. Finds a better equilibrium with air, the fruit aligned with dense, refined tannins. Shows fine length. Best from 2023 through 2040.

This deft expression of Sangiovese walks a tightrope that ultimately adds to its appeal and versatile personality. The Cafaggio 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Basilica Solatìo is measured and balanced. Initially it holds back to preserve an elegant first impression, but then it hints at some of the ripe, soft and exuberant fruit that was so easily obtained in the sunny 2015 vintage. The tannins are softly integrated, and the finish is fleshy and fruity but not heavy.
