Gin’s distinctive flavor depends on the blender’s individual recipe — some will have an overwhelming pine flavor from the juniper berries most commonly associated with gin, while others have more complex layers of flavor or delicate nuances.
Dutch or Genever Gin
A malt and juniper berry spirit. It can be lower in Alcohol then other juniper flavored products. There are 2 styles: OUDE (old) Containing a high percent of malt and is heavier. JONGE (young) which contains no more than 15 percent malt and is much lighter.
American or English Gin
The most popular gin, this is a dry, light and crisp gin with a clean juniper berry flavor.
An aromatic, slightly fruity and full-bodied type of gin.
Old Tom Gin
This gin is making a comeback, it is made with juniper berries and non-bitter botanicals. It is light bodied and slightly sweet.
